Day Habilitation or Structured Day Programs
Mission:

Day Hab Services Foster:
Skill development: daily living skills like personal hygiene, cooking, money management, etc.
Travel skills: use of public transportation, community navigation, and independent, safe travel.
Communication skills: verbal and non-verbal communication.
Socialization: interactions and connections through group activities and community outings.
Community integration: participation in community events, volunteer opportunities, and utilization of local resources.
Therapeutic interventions: such as occupational, physical, or speech therapy.
Behavioral support: to manage challenging behaviors and promote positive ones.
Typical Hours of Operation:
Monday through Friday: 9 AM to 2 PM or 3 PM. but they may vary depending on the program and location.
Payment:
Many Day Habilitation programs are funded by Medicaid
Private pay on a sliding fee scale may be available
Transportation Arrangements to and from Day Hab:
Medicaid transportation: In New York, Medicaid ensures members can get to and from their medical appointments at no cost. Check what your state provides.
Contracted transportation: Some programs contract with transportation services to provide route-based transportation to and from their programs.
Pick-up and drop-off: Some programs offer pick-up and drop-off services by staff members.
