Matt's Early Memories
In October 2019, Matt started attending a daily Brain Training group offered by a private individual, Kathy Johnson, to individuals struggling with cognitive issues. Kathy quickly identified a few strengths to build on and, of course, many opportunities. Her expertise in special education and cognitive retraining was a God-sent. Matt benefited greatly from these sessions and the opportunity to interact with others on the same quest to improve. Unfortunately, six months later, in April 2020, COVID-19 ended this program.
Kathy, however, was inspired to help Matt achieve his full potential, and four months later, offered to work with him privately. She called it Academic Tutoring. They met twice a week for an hour-long virtual meeting. It was a great time of growth. Intermittently, she added a new strategy. In the Fall of 2020, she explored Matt's earliest memories following his traumatic brain injury. It was surprising to learn how soon after it was and the particular details. They focused on different periods in rehab, and Matt journaled what he remembered. On a few occasions, Kathy videotaped his responses.
Below are the byproducts of this endeavor. We are indebted to Kathy for generously giving her time and love. Thank you.
