Cognitive & Language Training

Constant Therapy

Constant Therapy App

Constant Therapy was created by a team of neuroscientists and clinicians from Boston University who believed that technology would improve access to therapy for people living with speech, language, and cognitive conditions, including those recovering from stroke, brain injuries, Alzheimer's, and other forms of dementia.  It can be used on smartphones, tablets, and Chromebooks. Constant Therapy provides weekly progress reports and graphs highlighting areas of improvement or areas that are lagging. In addition, it offers online educational resources and trained staff to support the individual's home program.

Whereas Constant Therapy doesn't have to be used with a speech therapist, most of us wouldn't know where to begin. A knowledgeable speech therapist can create personalized goals and progress activities to challenge and provide variety.

In November 2018, 6 months after his injury, Matt began a three-year journey using Constant Therapy. His therapist selected activities that matched his minimal abilities and advanced both the scope and the difficulty of tasks as he progressed and tolerated more. Over time, while Matt's therapist focused on other areas of need, I learned to manage and modify his activity list. I was delighted with this app. The technology allowed Matt to work independently when, otherwise, much of his life depended on others.

On July 30, 2021, I posted a summary of his progress. "The first year, Matt was stuck at level 1 activities; it was such a struggle. Over the next two years, the level of difficulty increased and now ranges from 3 to 8, and his language skills have improved from 80 to 100% accuracy. But most noteworthy, his processing time to complete each activity decreased from 45-137 seconds/task to 2-9 seconds. Perseverance paid off."

Luminosity Brain Training App

Luminosity App

Lumosity's cognitive training program offers daily workouts in a fun, interactive way to train your brain and help you understand how your mind works. They invite you to dive into 50+ brain training games designed to challenge various cognitive skills, including memory, math, vocabulary, attention, and more.

In January 2022, almost 4 years after his injury, Matt added this braining training activity to his repertoire. He used it sparingly and lost interest after a few months.
