Reclaiming Life

Be more than a TBI Survivor or Caregiver; be Thrivers

As soon as Matt arrived home, we involved him in customary activities of daily living and social engagement. Early on, he helped cut up green peppers, husked corn, or made cookies for 5-10 minutes. Then, he started to set the table and fold laundry. We played familiar games, taught the rules again, and helped count or guide the placement of his piece. It was a slow go. Sometimes, he baled partway through because he was tired, lost interest, or his attention waned. However small, these baby steps enabled him to do more over time. It takes patience. Be an encouraging and cheer every contribution.
